About Us
Thiral means strength in Tamil.
Not gym strength. The kind our grandparents carried every day — up before sunrise, working through the day, still cooking dinner and asking after everyone else before they sat down to eat themselves. Nobody called it strength back then. It was just how the day went.
They never took a protein shake. They never read a nutrition label. Their food was Black Kavuni rice, Mapillai Samba, Pirandai, Mudakathan, Sundakkai, Moringa — grains their kitchens had used for generations, cooked the way their own mothers taught them. No maida. No refined sugar. No preservatives. Those words weren’t part of their vocabulary, because their food predated them.
When eating right still felt out of reach
I got married without knowing how to cook. Most evenings ended in a Swiggy order.
Once I did start cooking, I was still tired all the time. My cycles were irregular, my skin kept breaking out, and no doctor had an answer. My husband and I both wanted more protein in our meals, but neither of us wanted to give up the food we grew up on for protein bars and supplements.
So we went looking for something traditional, but quick enough to make on a weeknight. We didn’t find it. Every “healthy” packet on the shelf had maida hiding somewhere in the ingredients, or refined sugar, or a preservative dressed up in a longer name. The few that were actually clean tasted like cardboard.
“She could never have told you the protein content of anything she cooked. She just knew what kept a family going.”
So I went back to my mother and grandmother. They had never stopped cooking with Black Kavuni rice, Mapillai Samba, Pirandai for the joints, Mudakathan for the gut, Moringa in almost everything.
Within a few months of eating this way, the fatigue lifted and my cycle settled. Some months later, I conceived naturally. I’m not putting that forward as a health claim — it’s just what happened to me — but it’s the reason I trust this food the way I do.
Why THIRAL exists?
My Chitthi knew these grains without needing a recipe card
For the recipes, we turned to my Chitthi. She’d spent years cooking with these grains and knew them the way you know something you’ve made a thousand times — without measuring, without needing to write it down. She helped us put together the first batch of Thiral products, and she still tastes every recipe before it goes out to anyone else.
Nobody was doing this with Black Kavuni, Mapillai Samba, Pirandai, Mudakathan — actually clean, actually protein-rich, actually ready on a weeknight. That space was empty. We built Thiral to fill it.
What WE Make?
Real food. Ready in about 10 minutes.
Everything at Thiral starts from the same place: grandmother’s kitchen, before maida, refined sugar, and preservatives found their way into it.

From our kitchen to yours
2022: a small flour mill, and small batches ever since
We made this for ourselves first. Then family started asking for it. Then friends of family. By 2022, home batches weren’t enough, so we set up a small flour mill and started preparing everything fresh, after every order comes in. That’s still how it works today. Nothing sits on a shelf waiting to be sold.
FOR YOU
If lunch by noon already feels like too much effort. If your kids push away every "healthy" drink you hand them.
If you've stood in a store aisle reading ten ingredient names you can't pronounce — this is what we built Thiral for.
Our Promise
We didn’t set out to reinvent anything. We’re just making it easier for a busy family today to eat the way our grandparents ate, without spending three hours in the kitchen to do it.
